Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in travel, style, and food. Hope you have a nice stay!

Can you put Germolene on a tattoo?

This is the top trending google question I see, that refers people to my website.

The answer is ideally no.

It’s not a tattoo tested product. It is very thick and although antibacterial will smother your healing skin and tattoo, this can cause bubbling, and excessive scabbing. Which can even lead to infection.

Your tattoo artist will give you clear aftercare instructions, if they don’t - contact them or the studio as they know what works best for their tattoos.

I have a number of healing methods depending on the tattoo style and placement. So everyone gets guided instructions for their tattoo.

I do have a general guide for all tattoos,

Keep it clean and dry, but still moisturised.

Wash using warm water and unscented antibacterial hand wash.

Only dry using fresh kitchen roll, eg bounty

Moisturise using tattoo friendly products

I recommend the solid palmers cocoa butter, approximately £4 a tub, there’s loads of online sellers for this. Or use reputable branded tattoo butters such as Butterluxe , Yayofamiliar, Stories and Ink etc, again you can purchase online easily!

Avoid any aftercare with known allergens.

Ones to definitely avoid for healing -Bepanthen, Germolene, Vaseline, Savlon, baby bum creams, random aftercare your friend or family give you, already opened or shared products.

Clean the tattoo at least morning and evening, larger tattoos may need extra cleaning.

Moisturise 2-3 times a day after the first day, for the next month.

Keep moisturising your skin and tattoo for the rest of your life for healthy happy skin.
